22 02 2012

World Travel Awards (WTA), the “Oscars of the travel industry”, has announced plans to host its Middle East Ceremony at Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa in Dubai on 30th April 2012.

The evening will mark the opening leg of WTA’s 2012 Grand Tour, a global search for the very best travel and tourism organisations in the world, covering five continents with nominees drawn from 162 countries.

WTA’s Middle East Ceremony will be held in Dubai for the fifth year in succession, underscoring how the emirate is driving travel trends not just in the region but throughout the world.

Located close to Dubai Marina, Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa is home to a breathtaking range of attractions, including an 800-metre palm-lined private beach, championship golf course, horse-riding stables and diving centre. The five-star beach resort is also renowned for its unrivalled range of family facilities.

Graham E Cooke, President & Founder, WTA, believes that the selection of hosts is fundamental to the success of the world’s most influential travel awards programme. He says: “I am delighted that we will be retuning to Dubai for what promises to be the most exciting and competitive Middle East Ceremony yet. The emirate is a hotbed of fresh ideas being put into practice, as exemplified by our host, Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa.”

“The resort has remained the market leader for families throughout its illustrious 30-year history by continually reinventing itself and staying ahead of the curve,” he adds.

Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa is the flagship resort of Jebel Ali International Hotels, and consists of two five-star properties, Palm Tree Court & Spa, which has recently undergone a full refurbishment, and Jebel Ali Hotel, which offers views over the Arabian Gulf and a championship-standard nine-hole golf course.

David Thomson, Regional General Manager, Jebel Ali Internationals Hotels, says he is delighted to host WTA’s Middle East Ceremony, stating: “World Travel Awards is the highest global recognition in the travel industry and we’re thrilled that the winners will celebrate at Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa. After our success earlier in the year, winning ‘World’s Leading Family Resort’, we’re keen to show our Middle East colleagues the changes we’ve made at the resort that justify this prestigious award. At Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa we pride ourselves on being a family resort and are constantly reinventing the offering in order to push the boundaries of travel excellence.”

WTA’s glittering Middle East Ceremony 2012 will attract more than 400 of the most important decision-makers in the region’s travel and tourism sector, as well as a host of international media. The evening coincides with Arabian Hotel Investment Conference (28-30 April) and Arabian Travel Market (30 April – 3 May), which are both taking place in Dubai.

Other regional heats in WTA’s Grand Tour 2012 will be taking place in the Algarve, Thailand and Turks & Caicos. The winners of these regional heats will progress to the Grand Final, which will take place at The Oberoi, Gurgaon, New Delhi, India in December.

Oasis Beach Tower gewinnt den nächsten Middle East Award

14 02 2012

Oasis Beach Tower has started the year on a positive note following their recent inclusion in TripAdvisor’s prestigious Top 25 Traveller’s Choice list of the Best Hotels in the Middle East in 2012.

The highly recognised awards are credited to properties that deliver outstanding customer care, exceed guests’ expectations and constantly acknowledge, act upon and respond to guest feedback.

William Harley-Fleming, General Manager of Oasis Beach Tower said “We are constantly striving to offer unbeatable service to our guests and I’m delighted that we’ve won this award based solely on their feedback. To be accredited with this award alongside other leading hotels in the Middle East is wonderful, but it’s the recognition from our guests that we value most.”

TripAdvisor stress the importance of these awards by stating that they are “the only recognition based purely on the reviews and opinions of millions of travelers, and winning one is a significant accomplishment: a genuine acknowledgement from guests of a property’s unbeatable service and hard work in running a successful business.”

Oasis Beach Tower has been the recipient of the ‘Middle East’s Leading Hotel Apartments’, awarded by the World Travel Awards for the last two years and is delighted to add another commendable award to their list of achievements.

Gastköche zaubern italienische Genüsse im The Grill-Restaurant des Marbella Clubs

On Friday 24th and Saturday 25th February the chefs from Italy’s Santa Caterina Hotel will be presenting a special Italian Menu at The Grill in the Marbella Club Hotel. The evening will begin in the new Champagne Room with a Bellini cocktail and canapés. During the meal, there will be entertainment from International Tenor Stephen Lloyd Morgan, performing popular Italian Arias so diners can experience the tastes and sounds of Italy.

The Santa Caterina Hotel is famous for its stunning views, amazing location and its fine Italian food. For just two nights, Head Chef Domenico Cuomo will be bringing his award-winning cuisine to Marbella. This special menu represents the best from the Campania region and will be a slice of the Amalfi Coast for diners to enjoy.

The six-course menu includes delicacies such as Buffalo Mozzarella mousse with Roast Tomato and Black Olive, stunning pasta dishes such as Parmigiana di Melanzane and the classic Neapolitan lasagna. There will be an emphasis on the fresh fish for which the region is so famous and this will be showcased in the Paccheri Pasta and a delicious Fish Soup en papillote. The menu will be brought to a close with an original desert of Lemon Soufflé with white chocolate and rum ice cream and, intriguingly, aubergine with dark chocolate.

Franck Sibille, Area General Manager of the Marbella Club Hotel explains “The Marbella Club has been synonymous with fine food since its inception. When The Grill first opened we used to fly the best beef from Madrid to Malaga daily to delight our customers. This passion and commitment for the best food and the highest quality ingredients continues to this day and we’ve decided to celebrate it this month with our Amalfi Nights at The Grill. Both The Marbella Club and The Santa Caterina Hotel are part of The Leading Hotels of the World, so we have been able to bring their chefs over to Marbella to showcase their fine cuisine. We look forward to welcoming foodies from the area to enjoy these special nights.”

Amalfi Nights at The Grill costs 85€ per person, drinks not included. Call 952 82 22 11 to reserve a table.

Dinieren Sie mit dem Mann auf dem Mond, im Soneva Kiri 2012

11 02 2012

From the deepest oceans, to the highest peaks, from the longest rivers, to the remotest desert plains….and even to the Moon, man continues to explore and discover the secrets of the world and beyond. These intrepid explorers all have one thing in common – they all have a story to tell.

During 2012, Soneva has invited some of the most pioneering explorers to visit its resorts to share their stories with guests over dinner, to discuss the effects of climate change as seen at first hand on their travels and to lead guest adventures in and around the outstanding natural beauty of the surrounding area – on land and on sea. The stories will be epic, the talks, dinners and excursions intimate and personal, exclusively for Soneva guests.

The line up itself is almost legendary, being led by the man on the moon himself, Buzz Aldrin. Buzz, who over forty years ago was the first to travel through space and spend 21 hours on the moon, will meet with his contemporary Sir Robin Knox Johnston, the first man to sail solo around the world. Both men crossed their frontiers in 1969, applauded and revered each other’s achievement but have met only fleetingly. They will meet for what promises to be an historic dinner, held under the stars and beside the sea, at Soneva Kiri in Thailand in April.

The calendar of adventures began in January when TV presenter and explorer, Ben Fogle visited Soneva Kiri in Thailand. He led guests on a diving excursion to discover the waters around Koh Kood, to view marine life and ancient caves and then hosted a very British Tea Party back at the resort to tell tales of his travels.

Charley Boorman, charismatic TV adventurer, travel writer, actor and UNICEF ambassador, will visit Soneva Kiri in Thailand in March. With his first trip in 2004, being a round the world motor cycle journey with Ewan McGregor, seen by the world in ‘Long Way Round’, Charley’s subject of choice will be ‘How to get around the world without using airplanes (much)’, recounting tales of his travels from England to Cape Town and then Ireland to Sydney using a huge variety of different transportation. Charley will dine with guests and show his documentary at Cinema Paradiso before sharing his stories. He will also take guests on an exploration by kayak around the coastline of the remote island of Koh Kood, amongst the deep, green mangrove forests.

Soneva is delighted to welcome these intrepid explorers to share their unique experiences with its guests. Along with the tall tales and excitement there will be an element of education, of learning more about our planet and beyond and of its current challenges, embracing the Soneva core philosophy of SLOW LIFE; sustainable, local, organic, wellness – learning, inspiring, fun, experiences.

(Ben Fogle Wednesday 25th January at Soneva Kiri)
Charley Boorman Wednesday 28th March at Soneva Kiri
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston Wednesday 4th April at Soneva Kiri

BUZZ ALDRIN

BIO

Buzz Aldrin was born in Montclair, New Jersey on January 20, 1930. His mother, Marion Moon, was the daughter of an Army Chaplain. His father, Edwin Eugene Aldrin, was a Colonel in the Air Force, a ScD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an aviation pioneer. Buzz was educated at the US Military Academy at West Point, graduating third in his class with a BS in mechanical engineering. He then joined the Air Force where he flew F86 Sabre Jets in 66 combat missions in Korea, shot down two MIG-15′s, and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross. After a tour of duty in Germany flying F100′s, he went on to earn his Doctorate of Science in Astronautics at MIT and wrote his thesis on Manned Orbital Rendezvous.

Selected by NASA in 1963 into the third group of astronauts, Aldrin was the first with a doctorate and became known as “Dr. Rendezvous.” The docking and rendezvous techniques he devised for spacecraft in Earth and lunar orbit became critical to the success of the Gemini and Apollo programs, and are still used today. He also pioneered underwater training techniques, as a substitute for zero gravity flights, to simulate spacewalking. In 1966 on the Gemini 12 orbital mission, Buzz performed the world’s first successful spacewalk, overcoming prior difficulties experienced by Americans and Russians during extra-vehicular activity (EVA), and setting a new EVA record of 5 ½ hours. On July 20, 1969, Buzz and Neil Armstrong made their historic Apollo 11 moonwalk, becoming the first two humans to set foot on another world. They spent 21 hours on the lunar surface and returned with 46 pounds of moon rocks. An estimated 600 million people – at that time, the world’s largest television audience in history – witnessed this unprecedented heroic endeavor.

Upon returning from the moon, Buzz was decorated with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest American peacetime award. A 45-day international goodwill tour followed, where he received numerous distinguished awards and medals from 23 other countries. Named after Buzz are Asteroid “6470 Aldrin” and the “Aldrin Crater” on the moon. Buzz and his Apollo 11 crew have four “stars” on each corner of Hollywood and Vine streets on the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Since retiring from NASA and the Air Force, Col. Aldrin has remained at the forefront of efforts to ensure America’s continued leadership in human space exploration. He devised a master plan for missions to Mars known as the “Aldrin Mars Cycler” – a spacecraft system with perpetual cycling orbits between Earth and Mars. Dr. Aldrin has received three US patents for his schematics of a modular space station, Starbooster reusable rockets, and multi-crew modules for space flight. He founded Starcraft Boosters, Inc., a rocket design company, and the ShareSpace Foundation, a nonprofit devoted to advancing space education, exploration and affordable space flight experiences for all. In June of 2011 Buzz started a new company, Buzz Aldrin Enterprises, LLC to promote his brand and oversee all aspects of his public appearances, media, licensing, endorsements and efforts to promote the future of the space program.

On November 16, 2011, Dr. Aldrin was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation’s highest civilian honor, along with the other Apollo 11 crew members, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins, and Mercury Seven astronaut, John Glenn, for their significant contribution to society and for blazing the trail of exploration.

Dr. Aldrin is an author of seven books including his New York Times best selling autobiography entitled, “Magnificent Desolation” which was released in 2009 just before the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo XI moon landing. He continues to inspire today’s youth with his illustrated children’s books: Reaching for the Moon, another New York Times best-seller, and Look to the Stars. He has also authored two space science-fact-fiction novels: The Return and Encounter with Tiber. His non-fiction works include the best-seller historical documentary, Men from Earth, and an early 1970′s autobiography, Return to Earth.

As one of the leading space exploration advocates, Buzz continues to chart a course for future space travel from Planet Earth to the moon and on to the stars.

If you’re travelling to Rio to enjoy their legendary carnival you want to look and feel fantastic, but the sunshine, the travelling and the partying can all take a toll on your skin. Here are some ideas for caring for your skin and looking great at Carnival from Magdalena Szaszkiewicz, Manager of the Marbella Club Thalasso Spa.

Prepare your skin for the Brazilian Sun

It’s always sunny in Brazil so make sure you prepare your skin for the sun exposure by exfoliating, nourishing and moisturizing. We recommend a detoxifying three step body treatment: full body exfoliation, seaweed mask and moisturizer all over the body. Your skin, free from dead skin cells and properly nourished, will be ready to be exposed to the Brazilian sun.

Once you’re there don’t forget to apply sun protector adapted to your skin needs. Burnt skin is definitely not sexy!

At MC Thalasso Spa ask for:

1º MC Thalasso Algae Detox Treatment – 80’ €160.00

2º Babor Anti-aging Sun Protector, out staff will help you with the choice of the most suitable for you from – €30 to €50

3º Baume Luxueux by Morjana – divinely unctuous this balm covers your body with a sumptuous and subtly iridescent amber veil – €90

Get that sun kissed look

If there’s no time to sunbathe before the party, you will need a good bronzing or golden shine treatment. Smart idea: just before getting ready, apply “shiny golden balm” on your décolleté, arms and legs to look great and protect your skin.

Don’t forget proper exfoliation before tanning your skin it’s the only guarantee to avoid an uneven looking tan…

At MC Thalasso Spa ask for:

1º Vichy Exfoliation or Complete Body Peeling

2º “Three Step a la Carte” (exfoliation followed by a body mask, finishes with all over body moisturizer) or “Oriental Delights”: two or three step performed with Morjana delicious oriental products
